"The Coder and the Fixer" is a fun sci fi adventure. The title comes from the jobs of some of the people in the story, basically mechanics and computer programmers (I hesitate to give away spoilers so not too much more about that)

The setting is on very large generational space ships orbiting an uninhabitable Earth. There are conflicts between factions and lots of great action. Also, the character development is very well done and drive the story as much as the action.

Positive: Well plotted and engaging storyline.
Excellent characters.
Great dialog.
Some violence, and threats of violence, but nothing too graphic.
Characters struggle with real emotions, concerns, and spiritual, and religious issues. Makes for very well rounded and realistic characters.
Good science in the sci fi, meaning it feels plausible, possible, and like it could really happen.

Negatives:
No complaints from me. I liked thsi sci fi adventure very much.

My grade, a solid A novel.

The Coder The Fixer edition by Celesta Thiessen Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

The author creates excitement, intrigue, and angst right from the start. It's a race against time - hindered by a low gravity situation.
I appreciate how faith and hope are brought into the story without being preachy.
I know I have said this a many of times, but I love sci-fi and fantasy books and this one is on my list as one of my favorites. The way the message of the gospel is incorporated into this story is outstanding and Azalea, she is my hero. The way she leaned, depended and trusted in God was very encouraging. This what a Christian novel is supposed to do for the reader, makes us fall more in love with our Savior and for those that don't know Him create a desire to know Him. I really enjoyed reading this and there never was a dull moment.
It's a limited world, a couple of space ships. But the society is well-crafted, the characters are developed nicely, and the story is compelling.
The spiritual level is somewhere between 4- & 5-star and satisfying. I refuse to spoil anything, but there are surprises, praises, and compelling suspense.
You'll like it.
I had a somewhat difficult time deciding if I was going to give this 3 or 4 stars. I ended up giving it 3 because although I really did like the story and most of the writing was great, the dialog was just not at all believable. I just didn't get the feeling that it was realistic dialog, much of it seemed forced. Another thing I found odd was the complete turnaround in personalities made by some of the characters. I understand it is a book with a significant amount of religion in it, which would explain some of it, but it was just too extreme. Some of the perks to this book was a great futuristic setting/plot and excellent descriptions by the author.
I had won a free copy of this book in a giveaway and I didn't check out the description before I began reading it so I was surprised when I realized that this futuristic book was also a faith-based one. While this book does mention Jesus/God quite frequently, I didn't really feel that it was trying to cram religion down my throat as I'm a little indifferent on the topic. I liked how the author made reference as to how the future world came to be and made it really seem like a futuristic world without using overly technical terminology. The author did a nice job at describing the characters and the surroundings and even somehow made a seemingly unlikable character seem likable.
Question How big is your God? If you understand that God is big enough to have created this universe, then you will be very comfortable with the premise Thiessen uses about God being able to intervene to protect His people.

This is more a tale of contrast between religions than truly science fiction, but it does heavily depend on the science part to enable the plot. The title indicates two roles that are essential to properly functioning technology and the culture Thiessen projects. The interesting part of the plot is how the final pair actually come together. The reader has to decide if God's love can truly overcome opposition. I happen to agree with the author that it has, can, and will overcome. This is a well written story that should challenge the Christian community to examine the messages that they are sending about God.

Ms. Thiessen continues to find interesting ways to project current issues into pointed situations that call for clarity of faith. I commend her books to any inquiring reader.

I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
This story, set in a future where humanity is aboard spaceships, struggling for survival, has a clear testimony of forgiveness and faith. The characters were believable and appealing and the problems seemed real. It was a quick read. I enjoyed it! Read this if you like Christian fiction and space fiction. In today's political climate, some may object to the way the "enemy" was a futuristic version of Muslim extremists, but the book gives a message of loving those who hate you, so it all works out in the end. Recommended.
